Huge jobs boost for old mining community
Ventura, the UK’s leading customer service outsourcing organisation has announced the creation of 1750 new jobs in the heart of the old mining community of South Yorkshire.
A member of the Next Group, the company has unveiled plans for a 15m expansion into Wath-upon– Dearne, near Rotherham, an area which suffered from the closure of ten pits and the loss of 10,000 jobs during the decline of the coal industry in the 80s and 90s.
The new expansion programme and the complex (to be completed by November 1998), will see the Ventura workforce grow from its existing 2,400 employees to over 4,000. The new positions will primarily be for customer service advisors to handle the 60m customer telephone calls and 30m items of correspondence that Ventura manages each year on behalf of clients.
The company hope to fill the jobs with local people from the Dearne Valley and South Yorkshire. Those targeted include the over-45s and women returning to work.
