The nerve,’ says Prospero Nograles to oil firms
Speaker Prospero Nograles lambasted Tuesday Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes for his inaction on the recent price increase on fuel products imposed by oil companies.
“This is really infuriating. While people around the world are trying their best to help us recover from the devastation caused by Ondoy and Pepeng, our own oil companies still have the nerve to increase their prices. This is the highest point of ingratitude,” Speaker Prospero Nograles said.
Acknowledging that the oil industry is deregulated, Nograles said that Reyes could have appealed to the oil firms to put off the increase as many Filipinos were still reeling from the tragedy brought by flooding from the recent typhoons.
“Secretary Angie Reyes could have at least called up these oil companies and appealed for compassion. Millions of people have lost their homes and are largely dependent on whatever support that is given to them by others. This makes me wonder if the DoE is still part of the government,” Nograles said in a statement.
The price increases, which started Monday night, ranged from P0.85 to P2.
Nograles said oil companies should have “spared the people from bleeding” by not imposing the increase.
“This is not the time for ingratitude. . . . spare the people from bleeding,” he said.
