Phoenix to commence mine development and coal production on the KO property

Phoenix Coal Inc., a leading producer and consolidator of thermal coal reserves in the Illinois Basin, announced today the Company has received a permit granted by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (”COE”) under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act (”404 Permit”) for its KO Mine. The issuance of the 404 Permit authorizes Phoenix to commence mine development and coal production on the KO property, effective immediately.

Prior to the 404 Permit, the Company received the other required permits for the KO Mine: the Kentucky Department of Natural Resources state mining permit (”KDNR Permit”) and the permit required under Section 401 of the Clean Water Act (”401 Permit”).

Homeland Energy Group Receives Mining Licence for Eloff Coal Project, South Africa

TORONTO, ONTARIO– Homeland Energy Group Ltd. is pleased to announce that it has received formal notification from the South Africa Department of Mining & Energy (DME) that a Mining Right has been approved for Homeland’s Eloff Mineral Project (Eloff). At a potential 500,000 tonnes per month run-of-mine (ROM) – the amount for which Eloff will be initially licenced – Homeland will join the ranks of major miners in South Africa.

300,000 Ton Capacity Coal Washing Factory at DaPuAn Mine

L&L International Holdings, Inc. announced today the completion of a coal washing factory with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons at its DaPuAn Coal Mine in Yunnan Province, China. The new coal washing factory produces processed, clean coal. Under full capacity and using $100 per ton as an average washed coal price, the new facility would add approximately $30 million in annual revenue to the company.

L&L opened the new 300,000 ton coal washing facility to add to its existing coal mining and coal consolidating operations in Yunnan Province — a coal-rich region of China — as part of its efforts to implement green technologies to the business. Read more

Xinjiang Zhundong Petroleum Technology Co., Ltd., a private oil producer started from a factory of the Xinjiang Branch of PetroChina, announces today that its board of directors agreed the proposal of establishing Xinjiang Zhunyou Energy Development Co., Ltd. on May 15, 2009.

The new firm, with registered capital of CNY 100 million, will mainly dedicate in the prospecting and mining, sales of coal, coalbed methane, and other mineral resources, as well as mineral product processing and sales. Read more

Settlement Reached in Crandall Canyon Mine Lawsuits

All of the plaintiffs and all of the defendants in the civil lawsuits stemming from the August 2007 accidents at the Crandall Canyon Mine have reached a comprehensive settlement for a confidential amount.

According to the parties, the settlement brought numerous and widely varying interests together. The parties expressed hope that the settlement would bring a measure of closure and a sense of healing to the families of those who were lost or injured, current and former company employees, company management, the residents of Carbon and Emery Counties, and the coal mining industry in general.
