Egypt will produce first gold from Sukari mine in June

EGYPT. Egypt will produce the first block of gold bullion from the Sukari mine in June, the official news agency MENA reported Sunday quoting Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sameh Fahmy.

Centamin is a mineral exploration and development company that has been actively exploring in Egypt since 1995. The principal asset of Centamin is its interest in the Sukari Gold Project, located in the Eastern Desert of Egypt.

The Sukari Gold Project is at an advanced stage of development, with construction having commenced in the second quarter of 2007 and first gold production expected during the second quarter of 2009. Read more

KIRKLAND LAKE, ONTARIO– – Kirkland Lake Gold Inc., an operating and exploration gold mining company located in Ontario, Canada, is pleased to provide an overview of its fourth quarter gold production for the months of February, March and April of 2009. The Company’s new fiscal year 2010 began May 1, 2009.

As reported in a news release dated April 21, 2009, the Company has hired and integrated into its workforce an additional 150 underground workers during January and February and converted into a seven day mining operation based on two 10 hour shifts. By early March, the number of ore headings doubled due to new headings coming on stream in both the Main Mine and the South Mine Complex. This resulted in a record monthly gold production for the Company in March of 7,377 ounces.

GOLD EXPLORATION – Phoenix mine to be dewatered

RUBICON MINERALS of Toronto has decided to dewater the Phoenix mine near Red Lake in preparation for underground exploration.

Work will be carried out in two phases. First, the mine will be dewatered and the existing shaft and hoist facilities will be rehabilitated. A budget of $1.25 million has been approved for this phase. That will allow drilling of the Titan 24 anomaly that extends 1,500 m laterally from the F2 mineralized zone and to depths of 760 m.
